Several individual performers demonstrated that they are peaking at the right time for PCHS swim coach Alicia Gumm, and the entire Lady Huskies swim squad competed especially well against solid competition Dec. 7 at the Woodland Park Invitational.
“The Platte Canyon team did an excellent job with several of the swimmers earning career best times,” Gumm said. “I am very proud of these athletes, all of whom continue to exceed my expectations. They work hard in practice and it is showing in their performances at meets.”
One of the Huskies’ highlights at the meet was a PCHS third place finish at 2:17.52 in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay amongst a field of 13 other relay teams. The PCHS relay team consists of Jadyn Mattson, Madisenne McAllister, Sydney Wagner and Sadie Lozensky.
Mattson also finished second in the 100-yard Backstroke out of 19 total competitors with a time of 1:19.88.
Lozensky was better than the rest in the 50-yard Freestyle event, taking first place in a field of 51 swimmers.
Sydney Wagner took seventh place in the 100-yard Freestyle with a new personal best time of 1:18.65. Her previous best time was 1:21.40.
She also added a fifth-place finish amongst 51 competitors in the 50-yard Freestyle with a personal best time of 33.95; her previous personal best time was 0:36.60.
Blanca Garcia-Quilez-Garcia took top honors with a time of 1:25.27 in the 100-yard Breaststroke. That was a new personal best for her, breaking her previous personal best time of 1:27.10. She also took fourth place in the 50-yard Freestyle out of 51 total competitors with a time of 32:44.
McAllister also finished 20th in a field of 51 competitors in the 50-yard Freestyle.
