The Platte Canyon girls basketball team had two home games. Jan. 10 against Arrupe Jesuit, the Generals won 47-35. On Jan. 12 they hosted Middle Park. Both these games were league games.
The lady Huskies had a tough start. The Generals went up 13-2 and led 17-6 after the first quarter. Nothing would go right for the lady Huskies. They just couldn’t get a run going and trailed 30-17 at halftime. The lady Huskies started the quarter with the first five points to make it 30-22 with 3:43 left in the quarter. With 2:55 left the lady Huskies got to within five at 30-25. It was 33-25 after three quarters. The Generals kept their lead and won 47-35.
“Arrupe is a very good team, and we knew going into game that they would be tough,” Coach Reesha Curtis said. “Although we lost, our team came together and played significantly better than our previous game. To be honest, I’m thrilled with that improvement from one game to the next, because ultimately that is what we strive for. Those incremental improvements are little wins in my book.”
Sydney Curtis had 16 points, ten rebounds, two assists and two steals. Liza Lineberry had seven points, one rebound and one assist. Caylie Lewis had six points, five rebounds, two assists and one steal. Kailey Patterson had four points and two rebounds. Kadence Pietro had two points and one rebound. Caley Erickson had ten rebounds and four assists. Dani Clementson had three rebounds and two assists.
The teams went up and down the court in the first quarter. The Panthers led 6-4 after the first quarter. Nothing went right for the Huskies for the rest of the game. The Panthers led 23-6 at halftime, and went on to win 42-10.
Dani Clementson had four points and five rebounds. Caylie Lewis had four points, two rebounds, one steal, one assist and one blocked shot. Sydney Curtis had two points, seven rebounds, one assist and three steals. Kadence Pietro had one rebound. Liza Lineberry had six rebounds, two steals and one blocked shot. Caley Erickson had ten rebounds, three assists, one steal and four blocked shots.
“This was a game that caused us to intensely reflect on who we are as a team,” Coach Reesha Curtis said. “So many mistakes were made by players, but also by me. This game also reminded each of us the vital importance of team unity. We’ll reflect, we’ll learn and then hit the court next practice ready to work hard.”
