Platte Canyon girls basketball team had a busy week. They traveled to Conifer Dec. 13. They beat the Lobos 31-16. Then on Dec. 17 they toppled Rocky Mountain Lutheran.
The Huskies started off slow, but then got their offense going. They went on to lead 11-7 after the first quarter. It was a low scoring second quarter as the Huskies led 14-11 at halftime. There was not much scoring in the third quarter, but the Huskies kept their lead at 19-15 after three quarters. It was all Huskies in the fourth quarter. They started out scoring five quick points to go ahead 24-15 with 4:08 left in the game. They never looked back. They held the Lobos to one point and scored 14. The Huskies won 31-16.
Liz Lineberry had 14 points, five rebounds, one assist, three steals and two blocked shots. Ily Hardey had eight points, seven rebounds, one assist and two steals. Sydney Curtis had six points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Kailey Patterson had two points and three steals. Dani Clementson had one point, three rebounds, one assist and two steals. Caylie Lewis had three rebounds and three steals. Kadence Pietro had one rebound. Caley Erickson had five rebounds, two assists, eight steals and two blocked shots.
“We’ve really been emphasizing defense, and the girls demonstrated strong defense in their game against Conifer,” PCHS coach Reesha Curtis said. “They worked together and communicated very well. Their great teamwork and strong defense won the game.”
Neither team could get its offense going. It was a very low scoring game. Rocky Mountain Lutheran led 7-5 after the first quarter. The Huskies came back and led 11-10 at halftime. Nothing was decided after three quarters, as the teams were tied at 14. The Huskies went ahead 19-14 with 4:37 left in the game. They went on to win 23-17.
Lineberry had 11 points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal. Curtis had six points, ten rebounds, one assist and two steals. Erickson had four points, 19 rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots. Hardey had two points, five rebounds, one assist and two steals. Clementson had two rebounds. Lewis had three rebounds, one assist and one blocked shot.
“This game entirely came down to defense,” Coach Curtis said. “The girls played their game and executed their responsibilities exactly as directed. It was a dogfight, but they pulled it out. This was a genuine team win.”
The Lady Huskies will be at South Park Dec. 21 in their final game of the 2022 part of the season. They will start the 2023 part of the season at Arvada 1-7-23.
