Jerry Foster Humphrey

Bailey resident Jerry Foster Humphrey passed away on Dec. 30, 2021, at Life Care Center in Evergreen. He was 88. He was born in Council Bluffs, IA, on Dec. 31, 1932, and raised in Washington. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1951 after he graduated from high school and served two years before he was honorably discharged. He graduated from the University of Washington in 1957 with a degree in electrical engineering. He moved to California where he lived for 30 years, then returned to Washington for 15 years, before moving to the Bailey area in 2003. Humphrey worked in engineering and sales, before beginning a career in real estate in 1990. He was a member of many organizations, including Toastmasters International and Kiwanis. While living in Bailey, he volunteered countless hours with the Boys & Girls Club, the Park Senior Coalition, and the Platte Canyon Area Chamber of Commerce where he helped to organize events like Bailey Day and the Bailey Car Show. He was also a familiar figure in his Santa suit as he volunteered for events around Bailey, including Cowboy Christmas, the Flume’s Holiday Extravaganza, and the Bailey Library. He also helped run the Widow’s Oil Food Pantry at the Harris Park Bible Church. In 2013, he was awarded the GRACIE award from the PCACC for his many contributions to the community. He enjoyed reading, sailing, and dirt biking. Humphrey and his wife, JoAnn, were married for 66 years.

Humphrey is survived by his wife JoAnn Humphrey of Bailey, CO; children Doug Humphrey of Fullerton, CA; Diane Humphrey of Wellington, CO; and Debra Orecchio (Steve) of Bailey, CO; grandchildren Jonathan Orecchio of Bailey, CO; Jennae Miler (Andrew Center) of Wellington, CO; Chris Miler (Andrea) of Seattle, WA; Alyssa Helm (Max) of Fullerton, CA; and Keely Humphrey of Boise, ID; great grandchildren Evie Center, Owen and Reed Helm; and brother Jack Humphrey of Spokane, WA.

A celebration of life will be held on January 29, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Harris Park Bible Church, 2257 Shelton Drive, Bailey. Refreshments will be served directly after in the fellowship hall.
