Platte Canyon High School Speech team competed in the Turkey Bowl Festival tournament in Eagle Valley.

Fourteen teams competed, which included Alamosa, Aspen, Battle Mountain, Delta, Dawson School, Eagle Valley, Fruita Monument, Grand Junction Central, Hayden, Montrose, Paonia, Palisade, Platte Canyon and Summit.

In duo interpretation, Emma Heineman and Sierra Nieland were third. In creative storytelling, Danielle Whitmer was 17th and Colin Wagner 34th. In humor interpretation, Drew Heineman was first and Nieland was seventh.

In poetry interpretation Brenna Curry was first and Sarah Yates was 13th. In impromptu speaking, Wagner was tenth and Jacob Stauffer was 56th. In original oratory, Joe Huntley was 11th.

“Our team did awesome up against 14 other schools, many of them competing at higher tournament levels,” Coach Amanda Waterhouse said.

“A lot of the team was missing, most of them performing in ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie’ at The Venue Theatre in Conifer, but we still came away with several awards including two best events.”

The team will go to Fort Morgan on Saturday, Dec. 2.
