The Woolly Moth is a brand new retail store just opened in Fairplay Sept. 12,
“The Woolly Moth was crafted out of a love by a little lady who gathers inspiration from her love of the outdoors, insects, birds, critters, roller skating, hooping and metaphysics,” states the Etsy.com website.
“I sell a variety of items including women’s and children’s clothing, accessories, wall art, home goods, candles, stationery, greeting cards and stickers,” Heather Nicholson, owner and operator of The Wolly Moth said.
She also sells gift bags, wrapping paper, fabric, thread, sewing needles, art supplies for children, handmade Christmas ornaments, board games and much more.
Most of the items are made in the U.S. Nicholson also carries the following Colorado brands: Vela, Counter Couture and Lana’s Shop.
In addition, The Woolly Moth carries items from small businesses and artists.
In fact, Nicholson is one of the designers and creators of items for sale. She designs most of the stickers and some of the clothing graphics. She heat presses the designs for the shirts and onesies.
Additionally, she designs the embroidered patches and sews some of the patches on hats and clothing for children. She also sews throw pillows and wall hangings.
“I also make all of the Christmas ornaments with the exception of the stained glass ornaments, which my mother makes back in Texas,” said Nicholson. “I really want the Woolly Moth to be a go-to for locals. I know that I personally hate having to go to Breckenridge or beyond for clothing, accessories, gifts and fabric, and wanted to bring a little of each of these to Fairplay. I have also tried to make items affordable and not overpriced.”
Business has been good so far. Nicholson added a sign in the yard by the sidewalk and posted video directions on her Facebook page in response to some feedback about the store being hard to find.
