Pass Notes is a project of the Park County Creative Alliance that combines the beauty of the Colorado fall golden aspen show with music and art of the creative people of the county.
It began in the fall of 2019. With easels, guitars and harps in hand, members of the PCCA gathered for one afternoon on each of four passes entering the South Park to share their joy of their art with visitors.
The event was so much fun for the performers and visitors alike, it was decided it should become an annual event. This year, the performers selected Wilkerson, Kenosha, Hoosier and Boreas Passes.
An additional feature on Wilkerson Pass was honoring the 1806 expedition of Zebulon Pike through the Southwestern portion of the Louisiana Purchase that passed through Park County near Guffey and Hartsel.
Singer Rex Rideout shared period songs and snippets of history of the trip, while a historian, artists, and musicians provided additional surprises as hikers strolled along the trails.
Visitors to other passes encountered artists at work and lyrical tunes as they followed the pathways through the woods and open meadows to breathtaking views.
“I love this,” said one surprised visitor, “this is a touch of heaven.”
