Platte Canyon’s speech team traveled to Edwards for the Battle Mountain High School speech meet.

There were a total of 12 teams. They were Alamosa, Aspen, Battle Mountain, Dawson School, Eagle Valley, Faith Christian, Grand Junction, Grand Junction Central, Gunnison, Palisade, Platte Canyon and Summit.

In creative storytelling, Heidi Sussenbach and Sarah Yates were eighth. In impromptu speaking, Emily Huntley was 15th, Jacob Stauffer was 19th and Danielle Whitmer was 23rd. Brenna Curry was third and Sarah Yates 10th in poetry interpretation.

“This weekend went quite well despite many of our team members having scheduling conflicts,” Coach Amanda Waterhouse said.

“Those who went largely competed in new events or helped out with judging. We had fewer students competing, but those who judged gained invaluable experience and were essential to making the meet run on time as they were packed with other schools and short on volunteers. Brenna Curry won their third place with her brand new poetry piece. We are excited to see what happens at Eagle Valley in a few weeks.”

The speech team will be at Eagle Valley Nov. 10 and 11.
