In Fairplay, on Tuesday and Thursday mornings you will find a group of about 16 senior men and women enthusiastically improving their health and lives - while having fun.

They are participating in SilverSneakers classes at the South Park Recreation Center.

SilverSneaker classes are fitness programs that are designed for seniors. The classes are offered at gyms and fitness centers in Fairplay, Evergreen, Buena Vista, Woodland Park, Breckenridge and about 13,000 sites in the nation.

Many different types of classes are offered. They include SilverSneakers Classic - designed to increase muscle strength, range of motion and skills used in daily living, SilverSneakers Cardiofit - designed to build upper body and core strength, Boom Move It - designed to build cardio endurance and burn calories using high intensity dance workouts.

Community fitness classes are also offered in parks, recreation centers and clubs in many communities.

For many seniors on Medicare, gym membership and class participation is free. To learn if you qualify for a free SilverSneakers membership, to see what SilverSneaker programs are available in your area or to learn how to bring SilverSneakers to your area, visit www.silversneakers.com.
