Obituary policy:

The policy of The Flume is to publish obituaries and photos that accompany obituaries for free in the print edition and then put them on the Flume website when the print edition comes out. However, part of the policy is to restrict obituaries to a maximum of 450 words. If the obituary is longer than that, then the person submitting the obituary has the option of editing the obituary down to 450 words or keeping the long length and purchasing a display ad that includes all the words. In addition, it is The Flume¹s policy to accept obituaries only if they come from a member of the family or a funeral home or a friend of the family who has been approved by the family to submit it and can verify that approval to The Flume. This last part of the policy is to avoid printing an obituary that might not be in accordance with the family¹s wishes. Obituaries are edited to comply with The Flume¹s style, which is tied to Associated Press style, and that editing will deal with grammar, punctuation, and, in some instances, clarity, but the intent of the editing will not be to change any of the basic content of the obituary.
