Rena Diane Aker, “Rena bo bena,” born Oct. 2, 1991, in Yreka, Calif., died May 20, 2019, in Fairplay, Colo.
Rena was the youngest of four children, giving older siblings and parents a run for their money in many ways. Rena was a vivacious child, curious and outgoing.
She followed in the footsteps of her siblings and was an avid and talented swimmer at a very young age. She kept up with her swimming passion through high school, earning varsity letters all four years, as well as all league honors, and breaking many records throughout her swimming career.
Rena was also a talented snowboarder, spending as much time as possible on the mountain. First living in Mount Shasta, Calif., then moving to Mammoth, Calif., and even following her passion to Colorado to hit the slopes of Woodward at Copper Mountain, Colo.
Rena was known for her vibrant laugh and prank-loving sense of humor. She was a talented artist, trying her hand at painting, photography as well as diffusing her own oils. Lavender was her favorite.
Rena lived for adventure. She loved extreme sports, fast cars and motorcycles. She was fearless.
Rena is survived by her father Clyde Aker, mother Manjulla Sant, step-mother Martha Aker, sisters Asha and Kendra Aker and her brother Evan Aker, as well as many friends who loved her as family.
There will be a memorial service for Rena on June 9, 2019 at 4 p.m. at the Yreka Union Methodist Church, located at 502 Fairchild Street, Yeka, Calif., with a casual gathering to follow at the Cortright’s home in Yreka, Calif. For more information you may call Ruth Cortright at 530-209-2542.
