Dona Jean Shumate, 91, of Bailey, Colo., passed away peacefully Sept. 23, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 5, 1927, in Shallow Water, Kan., to Carrol and Violet McIntosh. She married William V. Shumate and had two beautiful daughters, Sandra Jean and Karol Dee. During their marriage they shared many adventures, residing two years in Singapore and traveling extensively from Beijing, China to Tasmania, Australia and to Europe while William was employed by Boeing.
She excelled at anything she tried, especially managing all aspects of their home, raising their daughters, and supporting her husband’s career. She loved sewing, gardening, puzzles, painting, reading and her humming-birds. She was also a lifetime member of the VFW.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years, William V. Shumate; her daughters, Sandra Jean McIntosh and Karol Dee Fair; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Violet Neta McIntosh, Carrol DeCree McIntosh and granddaughter Sara Elizabeth Fair.
A graveside memorial service will take place on Oct. 1, 2018, at 10:15 a.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery. Following the services, a Reception of Remembrance will be held at 398 South Balsam Street in Lakewood, Colo.
