The Fairplay-based Park County School District RE-2 Board of Education and the South Park Education Association did not meet today, Sept. 6.

A press release dated Sept. 6 from the district stated, “The Park County School District’s volunteer board was unable to meet with SPEA Sept. 6, 2019, a date unilaterally imposed by SPEA.

However, the district is willing to meet SPEA and has offered to meet Sept. 14, 2019 at 10 a.m. as an alternative.

The district is optimistic that everyone can cooperate on scheduling to facilitate a more meaningful dialogue.”

As of this writing, the SPEA gave no confirmation its representatives would attend the Sept. 14 meeting.

In a press release dated Aug. 29, the SPEA stated, “The District’s lack of a reasonable or even original counterproposal to advance negotiations shows their unwillingness to bargain in good faith and will force the educators of South Park Education Association to take a strike vote, Wednesday, Sept. 4.”

The SPEA took that vote and agreed to strike if the district would not come back to further negotiate terms of the dispute over teacher salaries.

The SPEA had offered to meet Friday, Sept. 6.
