Dust off that Christmas sweater, hang those Christmas lights and join the Town of Fairplay for a fabulous holiday celebration Saturday, Dec. 7.

From noon until 6 p.m., you can enjoy free horse-drawn wagon rides, holiday treats, open houses and holiday sales at participating Fairplay merchants.

Then gather with fellow community members at Sixth and Front Streets beginning at 4 p.m. to enjoy free hot drinks, Christmas cookies and visits with Santa.

Be sure to stick around for the Doggie/Santa Look-A-Like contest at 4:30 p.m., and the ornament hanging by some of South Park’s school students at 4:45 p.m. Prizes for the look-a-like contest are being provided by High Paw Pet Supplies and Dog Works K9 Fitness.

The presentation of the True Pioneer Award to long-time local and volunteer extraordinaire Carol Davis, will take place shortly before the lighting of the Fairplay Town Christmas tree at 5 p.m.

After the tree is lit, carols will be sung with the help of the South Park Community Choir, and entertainment will be provided by Aspirations Dance Studio in holiday style.

But it doesn’t stop there, as the folks at the Fairplay Depot are inviting anyone who would like to join them to carol down Front Street while enjoying more hot beverages.

The 34th Annual Holiday Bazaar will also be happening during the day, at the Fairplay School Campus from 9:30  a.m. through 4:30 p.m. It’s a great shopping opportunity with over 65 arts, crafts and food vendors.

Visit with Santa from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., and check out the entertainment and silent auction to benefit the Edith Teter Elementary PTO.

There will be a free holiday workshop at the preschool for kids up to five years old from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., and the first-ever mattress fundraiser.

There will be 30 brand name floor model mattresses on display for customers to try, as well as top quality accessories to fit all of your bedding needs (including pillows, sheets, protectors, adjustable power bases and more).

This fundraiser will support Edith Teter Elementary and South Park High Schools. The Town of Fairplay is also happy to announce their annual Holiday Lighting Contest for residents and businesses within the town limits.

The town Board of Trustees will be looking for the residences and the businesses showing their best holiday spirit by decorating and lighting up the outside of their homes and businesses. Best residence will receive $200 and best business will receive $300.

So come on, Fairplay, tap into that holiday spirit and light up our wonderful mountain community. The Town of Fairplay Board of Trustees will judge the Christmas lights entries at 6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 12. Winners will be announced Dec. 13.
