County party assemblies in March

Park County’s political party chair people are:  

Democratic Chair: Dennis Obduskey 303-816-1616 or denniso@parkcodems.org

Republican Chair: John Lane, 719-966-9258 or jmlane338@gmail.com

At county party assemblies, precinct caucus delegates gather to select candidates for the state primary election, delegates to the congressional district assemblies and delegates to the county assembly.

Republican Party County Assembly will be held March 17 at 9 a.m. at the Jefferson Community Center in Jefferson.

Democratic Party County Assembly will be held March 24 at 10 a.m. at the Platte Canyon Community Center in Shawnee.

Only precinct caucus delegates may attend a party county assembly.

Brown around the county

Park County Sheriff candidate Mike Brown will be at the Alma Coffee House located at 131 North Main Street from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday, Feb. 3. He will also be in at the Crow Hill Café, 1 Delwood Drive, Bailey, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, and at the VFW Breakfast in Shawnee Sunday, Feb. 4.

Senior transportation outreach

Park County Senior Coalition is providing outreach events throughout Park County to inform seniors of new transportation options available to them. Events are planned for 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 27, and 8 a.m., noon, and 5 p.m. on Jan. 3.  Call 719-836-4295 to participate.

Fairplay’s Wearable Art Fest

Fairplay’s Wearable Art Fest (aka Bead and Fiber Show) will be held on historic Front Street on Saturday, Aug. 12, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 13, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. This event will feature bead artists, crafters, and dealers as well as fiber artists. Weekend activities will include classes at Coyote Creek Studio Arts, 419 Front Street, free drawings for prizes, lampworking demonstrations and open torch for anyone to try, and juried competitions in the categories of beaded jewelry, sculptural beading, lampworking and other bead work. Food and a beer and wine garden will be available.

Vendors needed for Hartsel Days

We are seeking vendors, craftsmen and particularly food vendors to join us. The Hartsel Days Celebration is happening the first weekend in August. Last year had over 800 attendees. A 10’x12’ space is only $35. We are also looking for volunteers to help with Hartsel Days. Come work with a great group of people. This year’s Hartsel Days will feature our first annual Chili Cook-off. “American Pickers” to film in Colorado

The hit show follows Mike and Frank, two of the most skilled pickers in the business, as they hunt for America’s most valuable antiques. They are always excited to find sizeable, unique collections and learn the interesting stories behind them.

MALT applying for accreditation renewal

Farm Homemaker Guild scholarship

Colorado Master Farm Homemaker Guild is offering a $500 scholarship this year to a Colorado woman with an agriculture background. Known as the “Second Chance Scholarship,” it will be given to someone who has had her college education interrupted or postponed and is hoping to attend a college, trade school or a secondary education institution. Homemakers are encouraged to apply. Requirements are: three name of reference, work history, community involvement, future goals and a statement why she deserves the scholarship. Applications must be complete and must be returned by May 15. The Guild reserves the right not to award the scholarship.

Military Academies Information Days

Four U.S. Military Service Academies Information Days will be conducted in Colorado, so parents and students can join representatives from the Air Force Academy, Military Academy, Naval Academy, Merchant Marine Academy, Coast Guard Academy and ROTC/NROTC college programs for an information session regarding the academy and ROTC/NROTC application process, attending a military academy or ROTC/NROTC, and serving as a United States commissioned officer.

Search and Rescue new member class

IREA accepting ed grant applications

Since 1988, Intermountain Rural Electric Association’s Board of Directors has awarded grants to graduating high school seniors who plan to continue their education. Winners will be drawn at the June 22 Board meeting. The winners must be members, or children of members, of the Association, and be a graduating high school senior in 2017. All you need to do is download (from http://www.irea.coop/userfiles/EdGrantForm_2017.pdf) and fill out the education grant form and photo consent form/release, attach a letter of acceptance from a college, university or vocational school, and include the applicant’s photo and return these items to IREA’s Sedalia office no later than 5 p.m. on June 15. Grant forms are also available at any IREA office. Winners will be notified by June 29, 2017.
